Professor Danielle Taana Smith is currently the Director of the Renee Crown University Honors Program, a Professor of African American Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Sociology (courtesy) in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Her interdisciplinary research areas include global migration (with emphasis on forced migration due to violent civil conflicts), human rights and international law, refugees resettlement processes; rehabilitation and reintegration of ex-combatants of armed conflicts in post-conflict societies and national reconciliation; post conflict reconstruction and investment in education as human capital; global development, smart cities, leveraging of technology to improve well-being and the geopolitics of vaccine. These themes intersect under the rubric of global health and development. She also engages in important domestic policy issues with an overarching goal of improving the social and economic environment for all, especially those at the margins of our society.
